Alan Max Feuerbacher

Alan Max Feuerbacher, 70, passed away on March 21, 2022, at his home in Berthoud, Colorado. Alan is survived by his wife of 25 years, Juliann Feuerbacher; his daughter, Julia Feuerbacher, with former wife Susan Rose; his stepson, Brian DeHerrera; his mother, Helena Victoria Johnson; and his brother, James Feuerbacher. He was preceded in death by his stepson, Christopher DeHerrera; his father, Max Roy Feuerbacher; and his stepfather, Leonard Johnson. Alan was born in Long Island, New York, and lived there until age 28. He graduated from MIT at the age of 31 and worked as an electrical engineer for 34 years in a wide variety of locations: Portland, Oregon; Geneva, Switzerland; Chestnut Ridge, New York; Fort Collins, Colorado; and Manchester, New Hampshire. Alan devoted his life to the pursuit of knowledge. His great appreciation of the natural world shone through his love of photography and extensive study of biology, geology, and mathematics. Alan had an intense passion for intellectual pursuits of all kinds and enjoyed helping others to live their lives according to reason and evidence. As a former Jehovah’s Witness and activist for ex-Jehovah’s Witnesses, Alan spent much of his later life researching and critiquing the Jehovah’s Witness religion. His extensive writings on this subject can be found online, along with his autobiography. Over the course of his life, Alan enjoyed gardening, hiking, motorcycle riding, reading, listening to music, and spending time with family and friends. Alan was kind, easygoing, and loved to be silly and joke around. In his quiet, unassuming way, he touched the lives of many people and will be deeply missed.
